• Find a Niche – Finding a niche can be difficult for a beginner. I recommend starting with something that interests you and researching the marketability of that niche. A good tool is the Google Adwords tool. You can use that tool to gauge how many people search for keywords related to that niche. They can also give you an idea of how much money people pay to advertise those keywords.

• Get Your Keywords – Decide on a main keyword related to your niche, as well as some secondary keywords.

• Start a Blog – Start a blog around your niche and write articles that target your keywords. Post these articles to your blog.

• Get Traffic to Your Blog – This can be the hard part. You will want to find ways to get other sites to link to your blog. The two easiest ways to do that are by submitting articles to article directories and asking other blogs for link trades.

• Set Up Adsense – Adsense is free. You set up an account with Google. You agree to post their ads on your site, and they agree to pay you when people click on those adds.

• Set Up Affiliate Accounts – Another great way to earn income from your niche site is to set up affiliate accounts with vendors that offer products that relate to your niche. People go to your site, looking for information about your niche, they see an affiliate ad for a product that they are looking for, they buy that product, and you get a commission.

The great part about this type of niche marketing is that they are inexpensive to get going, easy to maintain, and offer long lasting, residual income. The money doesn’t start flowing in from the first day, and it takes some work to get started, but that is true with any business. If you do it right, you will get back what you put in.

Some of the things you have to know during your link building campaign are listed below:

• Links generated from a site that you do NOT link back to is far better than a link that is reciprocal.
• Links from within the content of a site are far better than links from blogrolls.
• Blogroll links are better than links pages links
• Links back from multiple pages within huge sites can be dangerous to a new website
• Avoid sites with a large amount of external links
• It is better to rank higher in search engines than to have high page rank.
• “Nofollow” links are all but useless as they pass no authority

Also, you should be aware that leaving comments on several blogs as a means of link building is not always the best approach during your niche marketing campaign. They are usually “nofollow” links (see above). Another very important thing is that if you are going to comment on others’ sites, you will need to be in tune with what you are reading before making any comments. If not,  you are most likely to get your comment deleted or marked as spam.  This does not help you or your sites.

Finally, in your efforts at enhancing your link-building portfolio, you must respect other webmasters. Anything contrary to this will definitely have negative effects on your niche marketing campaigns, and will not help you to make money.

In short, targeted marketing and niche marketing are very similar. As mentioned, targeted marketing goes after a certain demographic of people, while niche marketing goes after the demographic of people who are going to be the most likely to use products or services that are being advertised. Finding good key phrases and keywords to use in pay per click advertisements is not always an easy task to accomplish though.

If a person is marketing a certain niche, how does he or she know if anyone is searching for it? Using Google trends is one way to start researching a key phrase or key term, but a lot of times, there is not enough data to provide online marketers with information if the niche that they are marketing in is small. This is where internet marketing software comes into play and can be very useful. Using marketing software that can find the latest trends and mentions on the Internet gives marketers an advantage over those who do not have this information.

Once a marketer or advertiser finds out if there is enough of a demand for the niche that he or she is marketing in, they can easily use Google to find out what the competition is. If there isn’t a lot of pay per click ads showing up for the keywords that are entered or the websites that rank first organically are not very relevant to the keywords, then this gives the marketer a good impression that the niche is not overly saturated and competition is low.

This is much more than an article directory. If you have a niche site and are looking to place well in the search engines, you need relevant links pointing to your site.
