Now that everyone realizes that the economy is changing and a lot of the good jobs we used to have are no longer going to be available, many people are wondering what to do. In particular, they wonder about the possibility of a job that allows them to work from home online. There are really two ways to look at the possibility of working at home on the internet, they are doing some sort of piecemeal work such as writing articles or running your own website.
Like every business, starting a site on the web takes a lot of work and there is no guarantee of success. In fact, the majority of people who are successful with an online business actually have two or three failures before they finally understand how to operate with a commerce site on the web. The problem is most people enter into an online business thinking they just have to build a web site and then all kinds of people will visit the site and buy products, thus making the business owner rich. It just really doesn’t work that way.
Building the website is really the easy part of the equation, getting people to visit your site is the hard part of developing successful online businesses. There are two basic ways of getting visitors. You can advertise, which costs you money, or you can learn Search Engine Optimization which takes time. So the question is do you spend money and attract customers with advertising or do you spend time and attract them when they are searching for a particular item or service you sell.
If you choose to advertise you need to be sure you have an offer that the visitors will be interested in and will buy. Otherwise, you can spend a lot of money getting people to come to your site and not get anything for that outlay of cash.
With search engines you at least know the potential customers are interested in the item you are optimizing your site for or they wouldn’t be clicking on the ad. For my money, the second method is the best way to get started.
